Tyrians

Our founding members came mostly from the Lions Grip chapter in the Butler area, they decided they could be more active if they had a chapter closer to home. They formed the Tyrians chapter, located in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh, and call Plum Creek Lodge #799 in Plum, PA our home.

We currently have a proud 42 active members and 9 retired members on our roster. We also have many Past master’s, a current District Deputy and a Past Right Worshipful Grand Master in our charter.

Our members are from all over the Pittsburgh area, from Bethel Park and Elwood City to Champion PA.  While many of our members are from areas to the east of the city, that wasn’t the case a few years ago.  As the Tyrians grew from the ranks of the Lions Grip, the Wardens Chapter in Washington PA. evolved from the Tyrians.

Most of our monthly meetings are held the third Sunday of the month at the Plum Creek lodge. Unless we incorporate the meeting with a ride, then we may conduct our business on the road.

The Tyrians participate in as many local activities and fundraisers as we can fit in. Our signature event in the past was the yearly purse bash. This year we are hoping to try something new and hold a “Night at the races” event and our hope is that it is a successful as the purse bash has been in the past.

Last year one of our members and our current Sgt. At Arms John “Big John” Hanyo was given a wheelchair lift van, which he in turn donated to the Tyrians. This van has also helped us raise money for donation through sponsorships. The van is also available to any PA chapter that may need it for one of their events or needs. 

Right now, our most successful way of raising money has been our raffle tickets which combined with the van donations allowed us to donate a substantial award to the Pittsburgh Autism foundation this last December.
